What Is Mogo Zoo? Mogo Wildlife Park Explained
Mogo Zoo and Mogo Wildlife Park are the same place. The park now trades as Mogo Wildlife Park, but plenty of locals and visitors still call it Mogo Zoo, and that is still how most people search for it.
The park sits on Tomakin Road at Mogo, a small heritage town on the Princes Highway roughly halfway between Batemans Bay and Moruya. The park's own directions put it about 10 km south of Batemans Bay, just off the highway. From Skyes Beach House in Malua Bay, the WTP listing gives the drive as about 12 minutes.
Mogo is one of three Australian Wildlife Parks sites, alongside Featherdale Sydney and Hunter Valley, and Visit NSW lists it as established in 1989.
The animals listed on the park's Our Animals page include western lowland gorillas, lions, Sumatran tigers, southern white rhinos, plains zebras, cheetahs, spotted hyenas, red pandas, meerkats, binturongs, ring-tailed lemurs, silvery gibbons, siamangs, and cotton-top and golden lion tamarins. Giraffes appear in the daily feeding sessions and the Savannah Safari, and the keeper talk schedule also includes otters.
Searching for a Batemans Bay zoo or a South Coast zoo near Malua Bay? Mogo Wildlife Park is about 10 km south of Batemans Bay.

Worked example (prices as listed on 19 October 2026, not a public holiday): two adults, an eight-year-old and a two-year-old pay $49 + $49 + $29 = $127 at the gate, because the toddler is free. With the 10% ONLINE10 code, that becomes $114.30. If the 25% October online offer described below applies to your date, the same family would pay $95.25. The park does not say whether the two discounts can be combined, so treat them as either-or.

Date-specific promotional tickets are only valid on the date shown. Animal encounters are priced separately and are not part of a general entry ticket.
Regular visitors can look at the Explorer annual passes: the Ultimate Explorer covers all three Australian Wildlife Parks sites and the Classic Explorer covers Mogo only. Confirm the current pass price on the park's website before buying.
Mogo Zoo Opening Hours And When To Arrive
Mogo Wildlife Park is open from 9am to 4pm every day, including public holidays. On Christmas Day it opens from 9am to 2pm, with last entry at 1pm. Last ticket sales on a normal day are at 3pm, and the kangaroo and deer feeding areas close at 3:30pm.
Some search results show "8am till 5pm". That line is the Visit page's search description, which also names Featherdale Sydney Wildlife Park, so go by the 9am to 4pm given on the page, in its FAQ and in its daily schedule.
The park itself recommends visiting in the morning, and says that if you come after lunch you should enter by 3pm. For guests staying in Malua Bay, a 9am start is easy: breakfast at the house, a 12-minute drive and you are at the gate as it opens.
Plan for about two hours, which is the park's own guide. If you want several keeper talks or have booked an encounter, allow a full morning.

Can you feed the giraffes at Mogo Zoo? Yes. Giraffe feeding encounters run from 11:15am to 12pm on the daily schedule, with an extra 1:30pm session on weekends, public holidays and school holidays. The park calls it a Giraffe Feeding Experience and offers annual pass holders a discount on it, so expect to pay extra on top of entry and check the price at the park.
Animal Encounters: Tiger, Red Panda, Meerkat And Lemur Experiences
Personal encounters are guided by a keeper and include a souvenir photo pack. The park warns that some book out quickly, so book ahead.
Each of the four encounter pages checked lists the price as "From $150" and a maximum of two participants, and the ticket terms say encounter prices do not include park admission. The pages do not make clear whether the "from" price covers one person or two, so check that on the booking screen.
The ticket terms also add a 20% surcharge to encounters in peak periods (December to January, NSW school holidays and the weekends either side) and a further 10% on NSW public holidays, so a summer booking can cost more than the "from" price.

Encounter rules worth knowingThe tiger, red panda and primate island pages ask you to reach the meeting point one hour early, need 24 hours' notice for changes and say encounter tickets are non-refundable. Keepers make the final call on animal welfare.
What's On At Mogo In Late October 2026
The next two weeks are a busy patch for Mogo.
Sea Otter Australia offer, 19 to 30 OctoberThe park lists 25% off general admission booked online for visits from 19 to 30 October 2026, linked to the Sea Otter Australia festival. The festival's partner page words it as bookings made in that window, so check the dates at checkout.
Children's Week Wild Adventure, Wednesday 28 October10am to 2pm, with free creative activities and wildlife discoveries, plus 25% off general admission booked online.
Roaroween, Saturday 31 October9am to 4pm, with Halloween-themed animal enrichment, keeper talks, free face painting, a Bling Station and colouring stations.
Sea Otter Australia itself is a mountain bike festival on the Mogo Trails, with its expo at Hanging Rock Place, Batemans Bay, from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 October 2026. The organiser lists expo hours of 10am to 5pm on the Friday and Saturday and 10am to 3pm on the Sunday. Mogo Wildlife Park is a festival partner with a themed activity at the park across that weekend, and general admission bought through the park's dedicated Sea Otter checkout comes with a code for free expo entry. The area may be busier than a normal spring weekend, so leave extra time for parking.
Every day, the park runs a $19.99 Wildlife Adventure Trail for children aged 3 to 12, who collect eight hidden stamps for a showbag prize pack. Children aged 15 and under also get free entry on their birthday.
Event details and offers can change, so confirm the final terms on the park's website before you book.
Getting To Mogo Zoo From Malua Bay: Route, Parking And Timing
Where is Mogo Zoo? It is at 222 Tomakin Road, Mogo NSW 2536, just off the Princes Highway. The park's directions say that from Batemans Bay you follow the Princes Highway about 10 km south and turn left into Tomakin Road, and that from Moruya you head about 16 km north and turn right into Tomakin Road.
From Skyes Beach House, the WTP listing puts the drive at about 12 minutes, so you can be at the gate for opening without a rushed start.
There is no public transport to the park. Parking is on three terraces beside the entry and in a larger open-air car park, with overflow parking for events, and no parking fee is mentioned on the Visit page.
The park gives drive times of just over two hours from Canberra and just under four hours from Sydney, so staying nearby beats racing the 3pm last entry after a long drive.
Food, Picnics And What To Bring
Is there food at Mogo Zoo? Yes. Wild Bites Cafe at the park entrance serves hot and cold food, sweets, drinks and coffee. A second outlet, the Island Cafe, overlooks the lemurs and siamangs and opens during school holidays and on busy days. The gift shop sells souvenirs, clothing, toys and books.
You can bring your own food. The park has two shady picnic areas, used on a first-come basis, and asks visitors to bring everything they need because it does not supply storage, utensils or condiments. Alcohol and smoking are not allowed anywhere in the grounds.
Payment is by EFTPOS and major cards at the admission office, cafes and gift shop. Bring hats, sunscreen, water and closed walking shoes, because most of the park is outdoors on paved and gravel paths. Packing morning tea from the house and eating lunch back at the beach keeps costs down.
Mogo Zoo With Kids: Ages, Prams And Easy Wins
The main loop is manageable in a morning, and kangaroo, deer and camel feeding opens at 9am, which gives younger children something to do straight away.
The ticket terms say children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over. Encounter age limits also matter: the Primate Island Tour starts at 10+, the red panda encounter at 12+, and the tiger encounter and Savannah Safari at 16+. Check ages before promising a child a specific experience.
The park says most of the grounds are flat or an easy grade, but some older areas are steeper or uneven, so expect a little pushing with a pram. The park also runs a Junior Zookeeper for a Day program for children aged 8 to 11, so check its website for dates.
For more family ideas around the coast, the WTP Malua Bay spring school holiday guide has more easy family day ideas that pair well with a zoo morning.
Accessibility, Weather, Dogs And Park Rules
Wheelchairs and walkers are available free of charge, and the park recommends reserving one in advance. Up to two support workers or companions enter free with a valid Companion Card, which must be shown at entry.
Can you take dogs to Mogo Zoo? Pet dogs are not covered on the park's pages, and the only dogs mentioned are assistance dogs, which need a registration form at least 72 hours before the visit and must be on a lead. Plan the zoo visit without your pet. If you are travelling with a dog, the WTP dog-friendly Malua Bay guide covers beach rules and walks for the rest of the stay.
General admission tickets are non-refundable, and the terms for encounters and events say they go ahead in all weather, including heavy rain, with no refunds for bad weather. On a showery day go early, take a rain jacket and keep a back-up plan. The WTP Batemans Bay rainy-day guide has more ideas for wet afternoons.
If you find injured wildlife during your stay, the park's FAQ says it does not collect animals and refers callers to WIRES on 1300 094 737.
The Bushfire Story Behind Mogo Wildlife Park
Mogo Wildlife Park made international news at the end of 2019, when a bushfire surrounded the park just outside Mogo village. Eurobodalla Coast Tourism reports that 15 zookeepers, including the park's director at the time, Chad Staples, stayed to defend the property, and that all of the animals were saved.
The same account says the fire burnt about 90% of the park's perimeter fencing. The park had been acquired by Featherdale Wildlife Park only weeks earlier. It reopened on 1 March 2020, and a veterinary hospital funded by post-fire donations opened that year to treat the park's animals and injured or displaced wildlife.
Pair Mogo Zoo With Mogo Village, Mogo Trails Or Birdland
If you want more things to do in Batemans Bay after the zoo, the nearby attractions are easy to add. Mogo village is close to the park and makes an easy stop on the way back. The village website describes Mogo as a small heritage town with shops and cafes on the Princes Highway, which suits a short wander and a coffee.
Mogo Trails is close by too. Visit NSW describes the network in Mogo State Forest, just west of town, as 72 mountain bike tracks covering 125 km, with bike hire available locally. If anyone in your group rides, the WTP Mogo Trails weekend guide covers how to plan a ride from Malua Bay.
The Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Garden is also in Mogo State Forest if you want a quieter walk.
Birdland Animal Park in Batemans Bay is a second animal attraction, about 14 minutes from the house according to the WTP listing. Check its own website for current hours and prices.
Back To The Beach: A Spring Afternoon In Malua Bay
Malua Bay Beach is a 2-minute walk from Skyes Beach House, so after a morning at Mogo you can be on the sand by early afternoon without getting back in the car.
Eurobodalla Shire Council lists Malua Bay Beach among its eight patrolled beaches. Council says volunteers from local surf lifesaving clubs patrol selected beaches on weekends and public holidays from October to April, and that peak-season daily patrols start in mid-December and run to the end of January. Swim between the red and yellow flags when they are up, and check Beachsafe for conditions before you go in.
If the group still has energy for more things to do in Malua Bay, the WTP Malua Bay snorkelling guide and Malua Bay surfing guide cover the nearby coves and surf breaks. Otherwise, a late swim and an early dinner round off the day.
